A Legacy in a Bottle

Our mission is to create the first mastiha-based fragrance house.

SIDO Fragrances is a new fragrance house inspired by Greek mastiha, the rare resin known as “the tears of Chios”. SIDO treats scent as cultural storytelling, drawing from faith, landscape, memory, and Greek heritage. Our brand name SIDO comes from St. Isidoros of Chios, the patron saint of mastiha.

What does mastiha smell like?

Mastiha is fresh and green at first

It's leafy, almost cucumber-like, before settling into a balsamic, grounding warmth

Notes of pine, cedar, juniper, incense, and pink pepper create a scent that feels cleansing, quietly luminous, and deeply rooted

Behind the Project

My name is Dimitrios Florakis. I'm a teacher, Greek American, and Orthodox Christian living in San Francisco. I enjoy traveling, traditional folk dancing, and cooking.

I'm diving into the world of perfume as it is deeply rooted in my Greek-American history. My maternal grandfather worked as a cosmetic chemist for Avon and co-invented a method here in the States to make subtle scents last longer. Additionally, my paternal grandmother was born and raised in Chios, which is why I have such a special love for mastiha.

SIDO is my way of preserving memory through scent and inviting others into that story.

We will be launching our Kickstarter initiative in 2026 to bring this project to life. We are working closely with Dr. Spyros Drosopoulos of BARUTI Perfumes to bring you the best, authentic and professionally curated mastiha-based fragrances.
